Tundra - an homage to Sergio Albano
All things considered, discovering good acoustic albums (in this case for Piano and Guitar) in the current climate is never gonna be easy anyway, but things get really easy if we are talking about Maurizio Colonna and Luciana Bigazzi. The concert that's featured in its entirety on Reflection in the night was held at the Golden Hall - Italian Cultural Institute in London, on 17 December 2011. The sound is very good, really spectacular (not already heard before).
Colonna and Bigazzi explored the blurry boundaries between different arts form, to show the processes from the inspirational event to the realization of a work -one of the surprises of their last project. Actually, they had already thought to involve their friend Sergio Albano in this work. When Sergio was still alive, Luciana and Maurizio were planning a little project to "combine" music and painting. In recent months Luciana decided to compose for her teacher (in the Seventies Luciana Bigazzi was Albano's student at the Perrone Street School, in Turin) inspired by paintings - just as Modest Mussorgskij was inspired by Hartmann's masterpieces! She chosen a picture entitled "Tundra", a frosty wonderful landscape, apparently in contrast with their music. On 2 June they played Tundra in North Milan Park, Bresso at the VII World Meeting of Families in front of the Pope Benedict XVI. The concert was televised by the major national television channels. This video video excerpt was taken during the showcase of their latest CD at the Feltrinelli. In this occasion Colonna and Bigazzi appeared to play Tundra for real, wich much energy.
Buona visione e buon ascolto!
